There are times in your life that God opens a door that you know you are to walk through. This was one of those times. I had some conversations with my friends Ron and Nan Deal online and via Facebook for many years. I was familiar with Touch A Life Foundation, but had not done any research into what they actually did or their goals. I did know that the Arts Center was named after their son, Connor, and that this was a trip that they frequently made.
It was over a year ago that Nan sent me a message and wanted to let me know that they were going to Ghana during the summer of 2019, and wanted to know if I would be interested. I didn't answer right away, I knew that I needed to pray about it. I told them I would let them know soon if I would be going, I didn't want to leave them hanging, if they needed to find another team member. That next week I asked several people to pray about this possibility. My answer came very quickly. It was an assurance that God had given me artistic talents, not only to teach, but this would also be a way to share my gift so that others may benefit from the healing it allows. With a background in Art Therapy, I am fully aware of how allowing kids to do art can do incredible things!
The kids at Touch A Life in Ghana are in the process of healing. Their backgrounds are varied, but many of them are in recovery. The center in Ghana assists many children that have been involved in child labor and sexual trafficking, It rescues them, provides education, as well as a home with a support system. The on site art center provides an avenue for healing through ART After reading this on the website, it was a giant megaphone ringing in my ear. This is what it is about! I knew my answer, and made the commitment.
