It was an early morning after a night without much sleep. I was thankful to be packed and ready to go. It took me all day yesterday just to get all of the small details worked out. Getting checked in as much as I could, but with an international flight, I had to wait to complete at the airport. Last minute packing... Did I remember this? Are their towels and washcloths at the hotel? Am I ready in case the rest of the team misses their connection? Car is packed.. Time to get serious.
My kids met us at the airport. I had the two large tubs filled with art supplies that I needed to check in. My granddaughter Addie enjoyed playing with the cart and loved having her Dad push her around on it. Terri said that she hadn't cried-- yet, but I did see her get misty-eyed. I've been praying for her safety while I am gone. So good to see them. I love my kids.
Sitting at the gate waiting. I made the commitment to journal, so taking this time to sketch and write. Looking forward to a reunion with friends that I have not seen in a long time, Ron and Nan Deal, and getting to finally meet Kristin and her son Beckett, the other team members.
In Chicago, O'Hare is a very nice airport. However, my flight from KCI got in at 1:15 and our second to Brussels, Belgium doesn't start loading until 5:15. Four hours of layover. The other team members are on their way. I am looking forward to actually seeing them face to face as opposed to on the "House Party" app that we used when planning. I finally found a quiet corner in Gate C10. Our gate was full with people sitting on the floor.
I got hungry and decided to have some pizza while waiting. Down from the gate was a pizza stand called Reggio's. Even airport pizza tastes great when its in Chicago. It was 3 veggie deep dish with a crunchy buttery crust.
I just received a text from the team on our Ghana 2019 group. They are on the plane and on their way! Our incredible adventure together is about to begin! #TouchALife #LetsSing #Artheals
Love!
