Day Two - Chicago to Brussels to Accra, Ghana

Friday,  May 31, 2019

Well, That was a rough night.  Not one I want to reproduce any time soon.  Since Brussels is a 7 hours ahead of Chicago, we lost several hours as we flew.  The seats in the plane are very small.  Sleeping was next to impossible.  Every time I would fall asleep someone would hit my elbow or my knee.  Then there were the cramps.  Ugh!  Oh, did I mention the 2 crying and screaming babies?   Definitely a test of patience!  However, this leg of the trip is almost over.  So good to get to catch up with Ron, Nan, and Kristin!  It will be great when we get to Kumasi and we can allow God to use us!  It's going to be awesome!  Crying babies and all!

Flying from Brussels to Accra, Ghana was not much better.  I did become acquainted with a friendly man from Germany that was originally from Ghana.  Glad we got along in such close quarters!  I was unable to change my seat from an interior seat to an aisle seat.  So, when the person in front of me reclined their seat.. not much room left.  It will all be worth it!

My first impressions of Ghana were good.  The people are extremely friendly.  When they smile, it lights up the room!  We arrived in Accra around 3:30 in the afternoon (That would be around 10:30 in the morning Central Standard Time).  It was a blessing all of the tubs of supplies were here on time!  Nathaniel, who worked at the airport and at customs was an incredible help!  He helped us maneuver through an otherwise confusing and busy process.

We made our way through "rush hour".  One of the first things that I noticed were the people that would approach you when you are stopped at a light.  Many of them were carrying wares on their heads.  Some were just begging.  They were selling everything from sun glasses to belts to laundry detergent.  They are more aggressive than the pan handlers back in KC.  These will touch your car and put their hands on your windshield and windows!

We made our way through the traffic and people to "Frankies' Hotel", where we would be spending our first evening in Ghana.  Nana, the representative from TouchALife met us there.  What an incredible lady!  She is a former New York attorney that left the states to be with her husband in Ghana.  We had a great dinner at the hotel including Accra's famous soft drink, Alvaro.  Bottled by  Guiness, it is pretty wonderful!  I believe we decided that the pear was our favorite!
We are all pretty weary-- I am ready for bed!
Tomorrow we meet the kids!!
